don’t tell your [family member]

Growing up, we get told things about the family, from family. When the things said are negative, or gossip, its usually followed with “don’t tell your [family member],” out of fear that the person will find out. if the adults in the situation know that what is saying is bad, then why do they share it to impressionable children who may not know much better?
